PERMAPLUMB is a laser based system which replaces the time-consuming wire method. It measures the plumbness of vertical turbine shafts. A self-adjusting mirror –always parallel to the horizon– reflects a class I laser beam into a vertically mounted transducer. Mirror and transducer are attached by magnets to the turbine shaft. From a single 270 degree shaft rotation the system calculates and displays angularity and corrective moves and even confirms their validity.
A MOVE function allows monitoring of corrections as they are being made. Resolution is better than 0.00002"/ft. Adjacent turbines can continue to operate since the system is vibration insensitive.
Measurement data is collected with the WINPLUMB PC software.
